Free house which reopened in late September 2021 after a lengthy closure and a long fight against plans to turn it into a house, during which local residents were successful with an application to give it Asset of Community Value status. The new landlord was still settling in at the time of this update, mid-October, and changes will be taking place till spring 2022. If making a special trip it would be worth phoning the pub to check current details. The pub has three distinct areas and log fires. Outside there is an additional bar with a bit of decking with a couple of tables and there are some more tables along the side and in the front and the garden is still being worked on. The children's play area at the bottom should be open soon. There is a bank of four pumps on the bar in front of you as you enter and another couple round the side to the left. The Abbot may be replaced by Abbot Reserve and the guest beer is a House Beer brewed by Crafty Brewing and will change seasonally. A further guest beer may be added later. Food has just started, with a short menu of British pub food, and the full menu is expected to be available, all day, every day, in mid-November. The focus will be on seasonal and local food and they will be smoking their own food. Tea, coffee and about a dozen wines by the bottle are available. It is hoped that accommodation of two rooms will be available in mid-April. Dogs and children are welcome and there is free WiFi. It was once owned by the Youell & Elkin brewery of Horley.
