Red Lion

Opening hours

Busy and picturesque village local dating from the 16th century and owned by the local Church. There are plenty of exposed beams and nooks and crannies in the several distinct areas around the bar. There is also a separate room at the rear, which serves as a restaurant extension or a function/meeting room. The pub is very popular for its food where much of the produce is sourced locally and is all freshly made. There is a sunny garden to the front of the pub for sitting and drinking and a large child-friendly garden to the rear, while a real fire awaits inside in the winter months. Car parking is available on the common ground opposite. Real Hitchcox bottled cider, made in the village, is usually available during summer. Information about the nearby Civil War Battle of Chalgrove and Parliamentarian John Hampden who was mortally wounded at it, is displayed. Games evenings take place on Mondays. The village church has fine wall paintings, which can be viewed by borrowing the key from the nearby Londis store. South Oxfordshire CAMRA Pub of the Season for Winter 2018/2019.
