A back-street local near the Oxford canal, rejuvenated by new licensees. This family-run pub offers five guest beers and home-cooked food (made by the French landlord). Owned by Morrell's until the brewery closed and the two rooms served by a single bar are still furnished in typical style with an eclectic mix of furniture and bric-a-brac. Free monkey nuts are available from the barrel by the entrance. The pub is featured in the first Inspector Morse TV episode (as the Bookbinder's Arms) but leads to disappointment as the set used for the interior was completely different. Take a short cut along the canal to get here from the city centre or railway station.
