This charming 16th-century coaching house on the edge of the hamlet of Caulcott, is warm and cosy with a welcoming open fire in the winter. In addition to the ever present Black Sheep Best Bitter, this genuine free house offers three guest ales often from Church End (including Champion Beer of Britain 2017 Goats Milk), Goff's, Tring, and Vale. The French landlord and chef serves excellent food based on local fresh seasonal produce, booking is recommended, especially Thursday steak night, Sunday lunch and themed French evenings, (no food served Sunday evening). The Bastille Day beer festival weekend is not to be missed. No dogs are permitted inside. The good-sized garden is popular in summer. Car parking is available nearby.
