May 2021 reopened at last - our reporter says, "I am in the Magdala loads of handpumps, cask ale is £4.65 a pint. Beers on include Harvey's, Oakham, Five Points and Big Smoke." Please note all other details will need checking e.g. opening hours. It's a joint venture between Big Smoke Brewery and Twickenham Green Taverns. Excellent Sunday roasts. Dog friendly pub. Small outdoor area with a few seats. Restoration in early 2021: Careful restoration of the wooden panelling throughout the ground floor bar and dining areas, with new sections of wood blending with the original paneling in the bar area at the back of the pub (where the toilets used to be). The green stained glass have been replicated in the dining area, letting in lots of natural light. The function room on the first floor has not been reopened to date, but hopefully in future it will be available to the local community as an important meeting place. On Sat & Sun food is served 8am-11pm (Coffee & Pastries from 8am, Cooked Breakfast from 9am, Beer from 10am). Lunch & A la Carte served 12am-9:00pm all other days. Food is pub classics, with an Italian influence. March 2021 - Mulberry Capital has signed a 15 year lease with operators Twickenham Green Taverns who already run a number of pubs. Twickenham Green Taverns has acquired a new free-of-tie 15-year lease on the ground floor and lower ground floor of The Magdala. The company will be opening The Magdala in the near future after a substantial refurbishment and will look to operate the property as a wet-led pub with a traditional food serving. Famous historic association with Ruth Ellis, last woman hanged in England, for shooting her lover to death outside the pub on Easter Sunday, 1955 (alleged bullet marks on facade are probably not authentic). Furnished inside with wooden tables and chairs in both saloon bar and dining area, although there is quite a contrast between the two, the saloon being heavily wood-panelled.
