The old saying 'they don't make 'em like this anymore' could easily be applied to this unspoilt gem. Apart from the name, railway photos and memorabilia give a clue to its past; many of the buildings in this part of town were built by the railway, the London North Western Railway being most prominent. Behind the pub a doctors' surgery now stands on the site of the former Abergavenny (Brecon Road) railway station and the line once crossed the road further down just before a roundabout. Inside there is a cosy lounge for a quiet time, but the most popular room by far is the bar which is full of character and characters! The bar is quite a long room and can occasionally host live entertainment at holiday times. The regular beers are joined by visiting guest ales on a weekly basis. There are some good pubs in town but don't leave Abergavenny without making a beeline for this one.
