Bell Inn

Opening hours

The 2nd Augustan Roman Legion were once based in Caerleon and their old burial grounds are nearby this impressive looking former coaching inn, just off the beaten track in the old parish of Christchurch. With a trading slogan "Where nothing is too much trouble!", the Bell has scooped many awards over the years at what was once an under-performing pub. Behind the impressive stone façade is a cosy low-beamed restaurant, fireside bar and snug. Near the bar is a small war memorial, if you can spot it ... as it is only opened on significant dates such as Remembrance Day. The Bell's appeal extends beyond its locality, with customers drawn to the excellent food for which it has won several awards. Bar snacks are available during the day. It has scooped several CAMRA awards among others. The pub is an integral part of Caerleon's Art Festival in July during which a real ale & cider festival may be held. A pleasant secluded garden is at the rear while facing the front door on the other side of the road is a great wood carving of a Celtic warrior, one of many such carvings dotted around Caerleon. Quiz night Sunday at 8.30pm. The nearest bus stops are by the Ship Inn. Note may close early if quiet so check ahead.
