Queen's Head

Opening hours

A pioneering micropub, which has resurrected a large part of a former Whitbread pub that ceased trading decades ago. Originally comprising one intimate room offering a selection of high and low seating a back room has recently been opened up effectively doubling the space. A blackboard dominates one wall listing the ales, ciders, and bottled “craft” beers available, set either side of an outline of Wales pinpointing from where the Welsh ales have been sourced. The bar counter is a lip-smacking sight to behold for a thirsty real-ale drinker with six handpulls to dispense primarily Welsh ales, some of which are brewed locally. Beer trays of three thirds of a pint are popular for those seeking tasters. Lovers of fermented fruit haven’t been forgotten with a selection of real ciders to sample. No TV, no gaming machines, no music (the only concession is the open mic night on the first Sunday of the month), no food, just good ale and cider and the buzz of conversation. It only takes a few people to be present to generate a really pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. Gwent CAMRA Town Pub of the Year 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and overall branch winner 2018 & 2019. Regulars arrange numerous social outings.
