Cromwell Cottage

A stones throw from the ancient bridge over the River Nene, this rambling old pub is situated on a bend at the northern outskirts of the village. The pub name relates to a fairly dubious yarn that Oliver Cromwell billeted himself here in 1645 just before the Battle of Naseby. Whether this is true or not, the main part of the pub is very old indeed and there is much Cromwellian memorabilia in evidence. The bar is entered through a porch way and you are greeted by 3 handpumps. Inside the pub itself, there is a blend of traditional and contemporary design, which works very well. There are several nooks and crannies to explore and comfortable chairs and settees around the lovely ironstone fireplace. The main restaurant is in a more modern extension to the left of the bar. Beware very low ceilings in parts of the building!
