Like the replacement of the original bridge nineteen years before, this building stood behind, and then replaced the original inn in 1890, and overlooks Trent Bridge Cricket Ground. It was the landlord of the TBI in 1838, William Clarke, who founded the cricket club, when he fenced off the field behind the pub. After a £1m-plus refurbishment by JD Wetherspoon, the prominent Victorian corner pub re-opened in 2011 to much acclaim, including a CAMRA branch award in 2012. The interior comprises a number of inter-connected, warm wood-panelled rooms and includes cosy booths, comfy sofas either side of an open fireplace and an array of mainly cricket-themed sporting memorabilia. Pleasant staff, led by an enthusiastic manager, will be happy to pull a sample of one of the 12 real ales and the many real ciders usually available. All of the bars - including those in the function rooms - are set up to serve real ale on handpull. The pub participates in JDW's annual beer festivals, often serving all of the beers at the same time.
