Local CAMRA Pub of the Year. Just a 15 minute walk from the centre of Buckingham takes you to the town's oldest pub, dating from the 17th century. A cosy atmosphere is enhanced by a real open fire as well as a new log burner in winter. Since Pete bought the pub in 2017 the toilets have been refurbished, a new oak bar added and a new cellar chilling system installed with all new pipework. Covid lockdown was used to complete interior revamp and install a new stone floor.
As a free house, the Mitre has four changing and interesting beers, featuring guests from all over the UK as well as local breweries. It also features two craft ale taps. It serves rotating still ciders on the fourth handpull over the summer, but reverts to beer in the winter.
The pub supports local charities and charity football and cricket matches. It also supports the local football and rugby clubs and has its own darts team.
Major sporting events are shown on the five large-screen Sky and BT TVs and, if games clash, different matches can be shown at once.
The pub also has a beautiful piano on which landlord Pete will regularly jump to sing a few songs and many locals also play.
Plenty of outdoor drinking space with landscaped gardens to rear, which now has new stretch tent covering the garden, allowing for al fresco opening no matter what the weather.
