The Woodman’s Stroke, aka "The Woodies" is a quintessentially English village pub, with its thatched roof and traditional interior of exposed ceiling joists and stone floors. Out the back is a paved terrace with enormous heated parasols, beyond which is a petanque piste set in the large garden rolling down to Rothley brook. The Woodies has been run by the Warner family for over two decades and the large amount of rugby, cricket and golf memorabilia on display reflects their enthusiasm for sport in general. Apart from the regular beers it has ever changing guest beers, often as many as four different ones each week. It also has a fine selection of wines. A selection of very good home-cooked food is available weekday lunchtimes only. There is a house beer, Woodies Bitter, which may come from an East Anglian brewery; see if you can identify the beer!
