After undergoing a complete refurbishment this free house now operates as a bar and grill. At the moment (Jan 2018) it is a bar only but is hoped to start food again soon. The main single split level bar area includes a tasteful lounge area to one side and a separate seating area for diners. This is a Grade 2 listed building with an attractive Georgian façade, that overlooks the former County court buildings and county gallows (opposite) which were later used as council offices (until 2006). One of the most famous cases heard at the court was the divorce of Mrs Simpson in Oct 1936 which led to the abdication of King Edward VIII.
