Located on the edge of the town centre, this has previously been the Earl of Oxford's hunting lodge and a coaching inn, its 17th century timber construction now hidden behind a Victorian frontage. The public bar is popular with locals, and attracts a younger clientele with pool, darts and quoits. The large dining lounge doubles as a function room, staging occasional live music. Good locally-sourced home-prepared food with curry every Wednesday and Steak on Thursday. The regularly changing local beers are augmented during several annual beer festivals. A board in the dining lounge lists the winners of the 8-Peaks Challenge held in September during the Kington Walking Festival. A sheep shearing event is held in August.
