Georgian listed building with bare brick walls and wooden floorboards, comprising two small rooms on the ground floor with two similar rooms up a steep staircase. The pub provides a focal point for both locals and the many visitors who appreciate the excellent selection of ales, cosy ambience and lively banter. The beer range usually includes some from smaller national and Yorkshire breweries, including at least one dark and one gluten free, also a range of craft kegs. The pub often holds beer events such as tap takeovers, including the twice yearly 'Women on Tap' celebrating female brewers. A trompe l’oeil painting to the exterior features the pub’s namesake Blind Jack Metcalf. The pub has been listed in the Good Beer Guide since 1993.
