Bear at Carriages

Opening hours

Refurbished and reopened as the Bear at Carriages in August 2020, this former wine bar, now gastropub, is situated towards the bottom end of the High Street. A small, low, ancient building with well-worn quarry tile floor and even older looking exposed wall timbers, is divided into three sections, the middle section with the bar counter being more suited to casual drinking (in normal times), the furnishings are a mixture of chair styles with suitably old tables. In the dining-oriented side rooms the furniture is more formal, these rooms are at much lower and higher floor levels due to the steepness of the High Street. At the back is a covered terraced area where food is served from a roaring fire pit, leading onto a south facing garden overlooking Knaresborough's Grade II listed railway station. Serves a single cask ale from either Kirkstall Brewery in Leeds, or the local Turning Point brewery, as well as a number of keg options.
