Built on the site of the old East Gate to the town, this popular and friendly pub is also notable for its 1930s wood panelled interior. A proud supporter of the town's rugby club, it can get particularly busy during international matches. The highly competitive Barnstaple Open Shove ha'penny Championship is held here, while the back bar is the venue for meetings of many local clubs and organizations.
