Behind an imposing columned façade is a fabulous Victorian building of 1846–7 by David Rhind for the Commercial Bank, the interior of which was altered by Sydney Mitchell in 1885. Grade A Listed. At the rear of the square, columned, staircase and hall lobby is the former banking hall in the style of a Graeco-Roman temple with a marble mosaic floor, arched ceilings and a mightily impressive coffered central dome.
