A pleasant but strenuous walk half a mile south from the town centre, this popular pub lies beyond the castle, across the River Swale and high above it. The bar is split into two levels separated by a stone chimney breast, while there is a large extension in the style of a baronial hall with impressive fireplace, used as a restaurant and function room. A quiz night is on Wednesdays.
