Rename from 1815 in spring 2021. The following relates to its earlier configuration. The bar offers Brewdog beers, no real ale following the rebranding. The Battle of Waterloo was fought on Sunday, 18 June 1815, near Waterloo in present-day Belgium. Due to its pivotal role in European and world history, the Battle of Waterloo has a prominent place in military history and there are many memorials and places named after the battle (the present-day Durham Marriott Hotel Royal County used to be called the Waterloo Hotel). This refurbished hotel bar commemorates the famous battle, and enjoys a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. "1815" celebrates the best that Europe has to offer including Spanish tapas and beer, Pommery Champagne from France, the quintessentially English afternoon tea and hand-drawn real ales including an Indian Pale Ale (I.P.A.) produced specially for the bar by local microbrewery Sonnet 43. Thr bar boasts an impressive patio/champagne terrace.
