Salt Barge

Built and opened in 1861 and situated opposite the Lion Salt Works Museum the Salt Barge Inn is popular with locals and walkers alike. A pictorial history of the Salt Mine is illustrated throughout the ‘top bar’ and coupled with an open fire, makes for a cosy drinking den. Marbury Country Park and the Anderton Boat Lift are near by and moorings are available on the Trent and Mersey canal, which boasts a direct route to the pub. Food is served daily from 12noon until 8pm (6pm Sunday) and includes something for everyone, from sandwiches to nibbles and home-made pies. Well-behaved dogs are welcome too and a water station offers them fresh drinking water, and in winter there are plenty of log burners and an open fire to curl up in front of. The Salt Barge focuses heavily on local cask ale together with a good range of local bottled beer. The guest ale offering increases throughout the summer months. The cider offer also varies seasonally but where possible is local too.
