Smugglers

Formerly called the Carriers Arms, this 18th C. village pub is located in the village of St. Margarets-at-Cliffe, a centre of operations in the dark days of smuggling. A short walk from the pub is a fine example of a Norman church, dating back to the year 1000AD. The main bar area is centred around an imposing bar constructed in the shape of a mash tun. Low beamed ceilings and carpets make for a cosy, pub atmosphere. At the back there is a light, conservatory-style restaurant. The regular ale is Greene King IPA along with two other ales which come from a variety of breweries, including Kent. There is an extensive menu which includes pizzas, Mexican as well as steak, fish, chicken. There's also a Specials board and Sunday roasts. Dogs are welcome in the main bar area, although restrictions may apply during busy times. There is free car parking about 100m from the pub.
