Originally a grocer’s but a licensed premises since 1841, this Grade II listed pub has a lovely arched-window frontage. Popular with students and university staff, it has a contemporary feel to it. There are light magnolia walls with murals by local artists, wooden flooring and furniture. A pull-down screen at the back of the pub shows sports events. There are six brightly coloured hand pumps, serving brews from local breweries such Arbor, Bristol Beer Factory, Good Chemistry and Moor Beer, as well as from breweries further afield. Every Tuesday some real ales are discounted. Quiz night is Wednesday. Pop-up kitchens provide the food but it is advisable to ring to check serving times. Will occasionally be closed on a Saturday evening for private function.
